i don't actually ever listen but it seems dave fannings show is being changed to one hour a night and will move away from music to a more talk orientated format.
am i right in thinking fanning is the only person on 2fm playing independent stuff? does this put an end to that or does the required quota of irish music on 2fm extend to independent releases?

info on the fanning show
"Changes are afoot at 2FM - at the Dave Fanning show, to be specific - as word reaches us that Dave's slot is to be shifted to 7pm-8pm on Mondays through to Thursdays from March 18th.
Plans are also afoot to make the show a more magazine based vehicle with movie reviews, features and discussion phone-ins as well as music."
Dave Fanning is a showbiz whore...the only radio show worth listening on any of the big stations is Donal Dinneens show...and that guy on Radio 1 who is on at around 6 or 7 (soul train ? )...
Is X-FM ever going to get a license ?Tony Cascarino was in revelatory mood, too, informing us that when he first met Steve Finnan he was struck by the fact that he was "quite a big lad".
Bill O'Herlihy was amazed: "He doesn't look it when you're watching him on telly." Tony informed him that that was because on television "he looks about six centimetres".

8th March 2002 01:28 PM #4I believe the quota of Irish music is being filled almost single handly by Louis Walshdudley (08 Mar, 2002 02:02 p.m.):

the music doesn't have to be independent, just Irish in origin
a case can be put across that Louis used the whole thing about stations having to play Irish music as lever to his sucsess
Louis: hey I hear you guys have to play a certain percentage of Irish music
2fm guy: yeah, it sucks, all we've come up with so for is the Hot house Flowers and The Saw Doctors
Louis: say I created a stable of artists equally as bland as any of the UK shit you like playing... but, and heres the clever bit, they are irish!!
2FM Bloke: HURRAH we'll gobble that up like the fat corporate pigs we are!!
Louis: then I could hold a compition on RTE for a new pop band to milk money out of... (all within the precentage of Irish music your so cruelly forced to play)
2FM bloke: hhmmm might be pushing it to far...
Louis: say I give RTE 5% of thier earnings??
2FM bloke: what you mean a state run TV station recieve a precentage from a pop band.. but surely we will end up putting them on every programme we can fit their smug vacant heads on to just to ensure a substantial 5% cut for us and eliminating your need to pay for advertising...
Louis: yes
2FM bloke : HURRAH.. pass us that bag of coke beside that underage thai lady boy will you
[please note these events may not have ever happened]I read the entire thread because of pantones post and only now realised that his post has nothing to do with the tread whatsoever...
